What is Cloud Backup?
Cloud backup is a service that stores data remotely on an offsite server that can be accessed through the internet. Cloud backup is an excellent solution for businesses that need to protect critical data from loss due to hardware failure or disaster recovery scenarios.
Cloud backup services allow businesses to backup and store their data securely offsite, without the need for expensive on-premises backup solutions. In the event of data loss, businesses can quickly restore their data, ensuring minimal disruption to their operations.

Why is Cloud Backup Essential for Businesses?
Data loss due to hardware failure, cyber-attacks, or natural disasters can be catastrophic for businesses. Therefore, having a robust backup strategy in place is essential for any business. Cloud backup provides businesses with a secure, reliable, and cost-effective solution for protecting critical data against disaster. It eliminates the need for costly on-premises backup solutions and provides businesses with the flexibility to scale their backup requirements as their data needs grow.

Cloud backup management is included and configured as standard in our complete IT management and support service.
The importance of continuity planning
Following a data risk assessment and GAP analysis, every business should have a plan for how data will be recovered, and systems brought back online following an incident. As well as how the systems will be recovered, the plan should also describe the Recovery Time Objectives (the acceptable downtime), and Recovery Point Objectives (the frequency of data backups and its oldest copy, taking into account companies contractual obligations to its customers and the potential costs of loss of services.
The myth of secure cloud services
It is a common misconception that services hosted in the cloud are all backed up. Many are, but you should check with your cloud service provider as to what is included in their backup and recovery planning.
For example, Microsoft includes deleted item retention for Exchange Online and OneDrive of 14 and 30 days respectively. This is not a backup, and following a data risk assessment, an additional backup and recovery plan should be implemented.
